For anyone who has ever yearned to play a musical instrument, the MI Guitar makes it happen in minutes. Invented by a Julliard-trained musician, this digital guitar brilliantly mixes technology and tradition. With dual-play modes, the MI Guitar gives beginners a quick and satisfying way to play the songs they love and also helps those with more musical ambition to develop traditional guitar mastery and explore new realms of expression.

As Director of Product Design Engineering my responsibilities were to establish and lead a multi-disciplinary team of Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Electrical Engineers to take an early concept prottype through to production and launch.

 

Combining findings from user research, rapid iteration prototyping and preliminary costing, we finalized the MVP feature set and successfully combined design direction into functional prototypes for demos. The final design integrated a custom speaker to reduce overall thickness, a removable neck for ease of transport, and a variety of audio I/O ports to enable the instrument to be used as a way to record new music and perform in a professional venue.
